The Riders Core

Do You Want to Learn Exactly What Your Core Is and How To Use It In The Saddle?

Then the Riders Core Course © is for YOU

3 CPD Points for BHS Accredited Professional Coaches

We hear the word ‘core’ a lot in the equestrian world when it comes to riding but, few can explain what it really means which makes it incredibly difficult for riders to translate using their core in the saddle.

The misconception is that your ‘core’ means your torso when in fact, it is roughly 35 muscles that contribute to its function.

When someone asks you to engage your core the most common response is to brace the body by stiffening, breathing out and holding your breath. This is the opposite of engaging your core. But because it has not been properly explained it is only natural for you to do what you think is right.

Breathing vs Bracing Video

What Is the Rider Core Course?

The Rider Core Course© is a half-day (6 hours) of interactive, practical, and fun learning. After the course, you will leave knowing:

  • What your core really is and the role your posture plays in its ability to function
  • How functional your core is currently on the ground and in the saddle
  • How it feels when you use your core in the saddle vs not being able to engage it correctly.
  • How to strengthen your core with specific ‘off the horse’ exercises
Rider Posture

Static Posture Assessments

You will learn the different posture types and the common issues they cause riders in the saddle. Helping you to have a clear understanding of how your body helps and hinders you.

You will be taught how to assess posture in and out of the saddle and how this translates to the difficulties riders have.

Riders Core - Functional Movement

Functional Movement

Learn how to assess your functional movement on the ground and how it relates to your riding challenges.

We will work through Muscle Release Techniques and Activation Exercises so you can experience what it feels like to ride with a more functional core.

Rider Core - Racewood Simulator

Riding Assessments

You will be able to put theory to practice on the State of the Art, Racewood Simulators. Learning how your posture affects your core’s ability to function when riding and how your riding posture relates to the challenges in the saddle.

It is a great course to go on to be able to gain more knowledge of your own body, it's weaknesses, how it's affecting your riding and how to help it.

I attended the course to be able to learn more about the core how it works. Issues that arise and ways to correct problems for myself and coaching clients.

My biggest learning point was how unfit/un-supple I am! Even tho I ride a lot, do lots of ground work, and have an active job I was aching the next day. Also theory side exactly what is involved in the core

I attended the course because I wasn’t progressing with my riding and the standard online advice on achieving a strong core wasn’t helping me.

Unlike the others in my group my second session on the sim was worse than the first. I realised that this was because of lack of stamina and generally poor fitness. This was a really important lesson for me. There was a lot to explain my lack of progress. My horse tends to pull me over her left shoulder and the feedback from the sim suggests that my weak core promotes this and that it has now become my riding style.

I would highly recommend this course to anyone. It gave me a real insight into my riding issues along with a plan to help me progress. I really enjoyed the day and found it to be great value for money

My biggest learning point was learning the correct exercises for your posture. Learning from others who were assessing me, with Clare's guidance, on what they see my weaknesses to be. Which were different to my perception. And realising when on mechanical horse how my lower leg is constantly’on’ the horses sid

This course is relevant for all experience levels. Horse riding is a continuous learning curve, no matter how long you’ve ridden and especially when changing from a horse ridden for years and then a youngster. Great to have an experienced trainer & horse rider who can give you rider specific exercises. Clare is very approachable and this course was informative, interesting, interactive and fun. Doesn’t matter how old you are either to enjoy this course.

My biggest learning point was how important rider fitness is and that it is under estimated. You need to make changes yourself to improve your balance and strength in the saddle.

This course is a great introductory course. Very supportive with like minded people. Thank you Clare, for being non judgmental and caring.

It was interesting to learn how to access different rider postures from the ground and how to work systematically through this process and learn the links between posture types and probable riding issues.

I signed up for the course to explore the effects of use of the rider's core on the horses way of going with the plan of being able to utilize this information both in any future work as an Accredited Professional coach to help riders and alongside work as a Veterinary Physiotherapist to help riders gain the most from their horse during rehabilitation.

I thought the rider course was interesting and eye opening and was a good course for riders working at any level. The course would be good for novice riders to allow them to build on their riding skill in a progressive way and equally could help those who are much more experienced to work on minor issues in their own or their horse's performance

I attended the course because I’ve never felt as balanced and comfortable in the saddle as others appear to be. Both horses i ride have same issues when schooling, so I’ve guessed the problem is most likely me.

Definitely do the course, it’s so worth it. I’m sure that even someone who doesn’t think they have any problem areas would still learn alot about their posture and how it might be affecting the horse’s comfort and way of going. I think the group size was ideal, not too many but enough that we could learn from each other. It was well organised and having the email with the booklet to look at before coming was really helpful. Thank you for doing the course and I felt comfortable asking questions and you were very helpful with everything I asked.

My biggest learning point was my posture type diagnosis. I have spent nearly 20years trying to fix something (in a self-help way) and have probably just created a different problem. Learning that this is common and constant re-appraisals are important was so sensible but still a revelation!

I attended the course because my posture is in need of some work and I want to improve my riding for starting a couple of youngsters while I’m not getting any younger. I have a constant interest in biomechanics.

It’s the only course I have seen that looks at posture off, then on a horse. It’s an intense day full of relevant information that I haven’t come across in a rider-centered course before.

I attended the course to expand and apply knowledge about use of core in riding and also to experience the amazing simulators to provide bio feedback.

Excellent insight into use of core when riding and how different people need different exercises to improve their optimal performance. The simulators really enhanced the experience by providing lots of biofeedback.

The course was excellent, really informative, without being overwhelming. I've learned so much about my body posture and how I sit in the saddle and how I ride. All discovered in such a positive and fun way! I have lots to work on but I can already feel a difference when sitting in my saddle. Highly recommended!

Thanks for hosting such a fun and informative course, loved it!

The horse simulator picked up my weaknesses, and unbalanced riding position. So I now have a go to plan to improve these problems. Some of the issues have been raised in my lessons but not clearly pin pointed, as they were during the course.

I wanted to attend the course to help me in my journey to improve my fitness to ride. Having had a few years off due to retired horses, living there long lives with me. Possibly 12 years on, it was time to start again before I get to old, I have found riding difficult, things I took for granted before are hard. So I decided to look at myself in the saddle was a good place to start.

Having completed the course, I have been buzzing around telling everyone about my day, even none horsey work colleagues. My friend Nicki, who also attended the course with me, and I, have both been on a high, of enthusiasm for our riding, upon returning home. ****NO DOUBT'S BOOK THE NEXT AVAILABLE COURSE****
