The Riders Core
Explained...

We hear the word ‘core’ a lot in the equestrian world when it comes to riding but, few can explain what it really means which makes it incredibly difficult for riders to translate using their core in the saddle.
The misconception is that your ‘core’ means your torso when in fact, it is roughly 35 muscles that contribute to its function.

When someone asks you to engage your core the most common response is to brace the body by stiffening, breathing out and holding your breath. This is the opposite of engaging your core. But because it has not been properly explained it is only natural for you to do what you think is right.
Here’s the thing. Everyone has a core, we sit, stand, move, ride. It is more of a question of whether your core is functioning optimally…
You can’t just turn it on.
It can either do its job to allow you to be stable in the saddle but allow fluidity for your horse to move beneath you, or it can’t.
If you wan’t to know what is holding your core back from functioning optimally, let me take you on an educational, light-bulb journey…
